agfc – Pledge of what we are going to do

Simon Gibbon – CASaV Steering Group Member / Waste Group Leader

I, Simon, promise to take action against Climate Change: for the good of myself, for those I love and care about, for strangers, and for future generations I will never meet.

I will hold a positive vision of our future, and work towards it. It will not be easy. I will struggle and falter, and I will need help. But I will keep going.

For the first step, I will have more conversations with people about what we can all do about climate change, looking to have open discussions so that we can all build on each others ideas, but making sure we look at what has already proved to work.

A Gift for Conversation – Chapter 6 – What do I do about it?

Barry Warrington – CASaV Steering Group Member / Transport Group Leader

I, Barry, with primary school age grandchildren I am constantly reminded of what kind of a world are we passing on to them, so promise to continue to take action.

As one becomes more informed about Climate Change one becomes aware of the complexity of the issues – arising from its ‘all encompassing’ nature, and the myriad inter-connections. Is for example buying an electric vehicle a sound decision – what happens to the old vehicle – what resources were used in manufacturing the new vehicles – do the sums give rise to sustainability? I will keep asking these questions to make the right decisions for the future of my grandchildren.

By involvement with other concerned individuals these kind of conversations can take place and one’s personal decision making process can be refined. I feel that such group involvement is a vital step in highlighting future strides I can make and helping my feeling overpowered by the enormity of the challenge.
