Upcycling Poster Competition

What is Upcycling day?

24th June 2023 – Upcycling Day is an international celebration of repurposing old items and upcycling them so that they are not wasted.

What is Recycling?

Recycling is the process of destroying waste and repurposing it to make something new from it, e.g. scrap metal is melted . Processed , and then used to make a new item.

Benefits of upcycling…

Upcycling is unique in that it uses waste in its current state to create something new. For example, the benefit of upcycling is that you can give a raw material a second life without spending the energy and money that might have to be spent to recycle it.

The Challenge…

  • We are looking for you to create an A4 sized poster.
  • Showing HOW you are going to repurpose something that would be wasted otherwise.
  • We are expecting some stages in the upcycling to be shown (no magic wands turning a pair of smelly socks into a ball gown ), but you don’t need every teenie weenie detail to be shown.
  • Environmentally friendly prizes for:
    • The wackiest / weirdest / wonderful idea OR
    • The most practical / useful idea OR
    • The most artistic / beautiful idea / idea OR
    • The simplest, ‘oh why have we never thought of that idea’

What are the age groups?

  • 7 – 9 years
  • 10 – 11 years
  • 12 – 14 years
  • 14+ years

Age when you submit your entry.

ALL ENTERIES MUST BE IN BY THE 24TH OF JUNE WHICH IS NATIONAL UPCYCLING DAY

Good Luck

A list of winners will be displayed in the library and sent to schools and organisations as soon as we have finished fighting over who the winners will be.

There will be a public display of the entries in Stokesley Globe Community Library centred around Saturday 24th June, when the public will be able to vote for the posters.

We will also send some pictures to the Stockton and Darlington Times and fingers crossed they will be so impressed they will publish them.
